On Wednesday, Mr. Brlecic’s yearbook class traveled up the hill and visited the kindergarten and first-grade classes at NDES. Arriving around 12:30 pm, the students decorated and set up to host the 2023 Visual Communications Christmas Workshop. This holiday party allowed the kindergarten and first-grade students to tap into their creative side by playing fun games, participating in various holiday-themed crafts, and other engaging activities. A few of these activities included writing letters to Santa Claus, coloring and customizing Christmas ornaments, along with making sweet treats such as marshmallow snowmen. The workshop gave the kids a chance to let their imaginations run wild. It was a magical and meaningful experience for both the kindergarteners and first-graders, not the high schoolers. The joy and excitement of celebrating the holiday season together as a community created bonds and friendships that will be cherished for years to come. On that special day, everlasting memories and holiday cheer were spread throughout NDES and NDCL.
Hosting this Christmas workshop was a chance for Mr. Brlecic’s yearbook class to give back to the NDES community and positively impact the younger students’ lives and elementary school experience. By organizing and hosting these types of events, students created a joyful and festive atmosphere that brought smiles to the faces of the little ones. Secondly, workshops such as these allow high school students to develop important leadership and organizational skills that will translate into their lives post-graduation. Planning and coordinating this party involved several tasks from Mr. Brlecic’s yearbook class. These tasks included creating a schedule and itinerary, decorating the NDES multi-purpose room, and arranging the intended activities. Overall, This experience enhanced the Yearbook class’s ability to work as a team. It also fostered a sense of empathy and compassion in NDCL’s high school students. They were allowed to interact with younger children, understand their needs, and provide an enjoyable environment. It cultivated both kindness and understanding.
