As someone who is not a football fan, I was ecstatic for Super Bowl LVII for one reason: Rihanna. Her comeback to music after seven years technically happened in November 2022 when she released “Lift me Up” for Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but her return to performing came last Sunday and viewers were expecting a lot. Fans of Rihanna were eagerly anticipating her first performance after the release of her widely successful makeup and fashion brands and the birth of her first child. Viewers and fans of Rihanna were also excited because she told CBS Sports that a special guest would be appearing during her performance. The surprise being that her special guest was her second baby with rapper A$AP Rocky. Rihanna captivated audiences for the entire thirteen-minute show and the internet has gone crazy asking Rihanna when the album is coming.
Rihanna shocked everyone by opening her show suspended sixty feet above the Super Bowl LVII field while “B**** Better have my Money” started playing. Fans went wild as she appeared in head-to-toe red jumpsuit and coat as she descended down towards the field meeting the dancers below her. The show ran a total of thirteen minutes featuring iconic songs such as “Where Have You Been,” “Only Girl (In the World),” “Wild Thoughts,” “Umbrella,” and ending with “Diamonds.” The songs chosen by Rhianna speak of a young independent girl finding love in “We Found Love” and “Only Girl (In the World),” then losing it and turning back to her independence told through the song “Work,” and finally ending with “Diamonds” tells that she has found love again. The songs chosen illustrate Rihanna’s entire music career and with each song, the crowd only got willder.
The crowd also went crazy for Rihanna’s backup dancers who have become a sensation on TikTok. Rihanna featured close to 150 dancers dressed in white puffer jackets and matching pants. The internet has taken to calling the dancers marshmallows and many are sharing their
experiences dancing for Rihanna. They share that they did in fact get to keep the costume and many did not even know the singer was pregnant. The internet is loving the behind-the-scenes look at the amazing show. With the help of her dancers, Rihanna put on an incredible show this Super Bowl LVII and many fans are wondering if this marks her return to music.
