In their Theology classes, every senior at NDCL had the opportunity to create their own Yantras. 12th-grade Theology focuses on learning and understanding the practices and cultures of other religions worldwide. In lieu of the Hinduism unit, the students had the opportunity to create their own Yantras and hang them in the hallway for the whole school to see. Each student-made Yantra contains a QR code that explains the meaning and reason behind the student’s Yantra design and color choices. The senior class creating their own Yantras and hanging them along the hallways was a perfect way for students throughout the school to expand their knowledge and learn something new.
Creating colorful Yantras to hang along the hallways was a fun way to explore Hinduism. Students could expand their knowledge of Hinduism’s rich symbolism and spiritual significance by making these sacred geometrical symbols. They have the chance to learn about the several types of Yantras, their meanings, and how they are used in meditation and worship. This hands-on approach allows students to learn about Hinduism and experience its practices firsthand. It is a unique way to foster understanding and appreciation for different religious traditions besides Catholicism. This was an exciting and interactive way for the senior Theology classes to learn about Hinduism and its spiritual practices.
Yantras were created to act as highly efficient tools for contemplation, concentration, and meditation because of the warm colors, light-to-dark shades, and design choices. Many of the Senior Yantras contained warmer colors, including red, pink, orange, and yellow, to evoke happiness, optimism, energy, and passion. Warmer colors are associated with heat and the sun, creating a more energetic, inviting, cozy, stimulating, passionate, and intimate feeling. Most of them started with lighter shades of colors around the outside and eventually became darker in the center. This was done to draw the eye to the center of the Yantra to accomplish efficient concentration and meditation. This helps you focus on yourself and forget about the world’s chaos. This also helps prayer to come more easily and flow more efficiently.
