For this 2024-2025 school year, nine new staff members have just become a part of our NDCL community. The students have done a great job making them all feel welcomed during their first two weeks. From science teachers to musical coaches, we are so excited to welcome every single one of them as they continue to contribute to the future of our school! Although you may have already heard about some of them from our school’s Instagram (themane_ndcl), let’s focus on each one of them in a series of articles, starting with one of our new science teachers!
Meet Mrs. Audrey Bowers! Mrs. Bowers teaches physics this year and participates in our engineering and robotics club! Mrs. Bowers has a minor in poverty studies from the University of Notre Dame and attended the Relay Graduate School to get her Master of Arts Degree in teaching, as well as a bachelor’s in Biological sciences. Coming from a previous four years of experience in the teaching field, including many different positions at Tindley Accelerated School in Indianapolis, Indiana, Mrs. Bowers is guaranteed to be a helpful contribution to our community!
When asked what plans Mrs. Bowers has in the future regarding her class for this school year, Mrs. Bowers answered, “For my physics class, I plan to assign a longer-lasting project, possibly including a Rube Goldberg Machine, that will allow the students to develop their skills in independence when getting the project done outside of class.” To follow up, I asked what a Rube Goldberg Machine is. Mrs. Bowers explained how this machine relies on a chain of reactions to trigger the next step and then continues. This is definitely something to look forward to for our physics students! Lastly, Mrs. Bowers was presented with the question: How have your students been treating you since school started? She replied, “They have been super nice and polite. I am so excited to get to know them more and see how they will accomplish the challenges I give them!” Sounds like the students have been giving their all, as usual, to welcome Mrs. Bowers! Stay tuned for another interview with a new staff member next week!
