Schools are canceled for the rest of the year!!!!! Did you fall for it? Anyway, happy April Fools! I hope everyone successfully played some harmless jokes on nearby friends and family on April 1st earlier this week. If you checked The Mane Instagram, you would see that we announced the school’s new take on conservation… through reusable toilet paper! Now, whether or not that was an April Fool’s joke… only time will tell.
What is April Fools, really? April Fools’ Day is celebrated every year on April 1st, marked by lighthearted jokes and pranks on others. People from all over the world take this opportunity to trick their friends and family with humorous deceptions and satirical stories. This day is rooted in an attempt to fill the air with laughter, surprise, and fun!
April Fools originates from several different theories. Some historians trace it back to the switch from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian Calendar back in 1582 when the new year was moved from April 1st to January 1st. All those who continued to celebrate the new year on April 1st were labeled as “April fools” and then became the target of other pranks from others. However, some other theories suggest an origin or ancient traditions such as the Roman festival. This was celebrated towards the end of March by people dressing up in disguises and tricking others.
Despite the controversy in the origin behind this comedic holiday, we call April Fools, the lively day will forever be a time for people to let loose and have fun safely and harmlessly. We hope everyone enjoyed their April Fools and got at least one chance to play a trick on a family or friend!
