The NDCL Lions, off to a 3-0 start for the first time in seven seasons, prepare to take on the Bengals of Benedictine High School, who are also 3-0. This is the first matchup between the two schools since 2019, when Benedictine won 38-20. When asked about the keys to the hot start, senior captain Brendan Hernan mentioned, “Starting all the way back from March, being together every day and truly building togetherness and team chemistry. Also hanging out off the field with teammates forming more than just bonds over winning, but bonds over friendship.”
This historic matchup has been a tradition throughout history, and now, with undefeated teams, the stakes have never been higher! To honor Cathedral Latin School and the rich legacy of its football program, the Lions will be donning their fresh purple and gold jerseys! The hype and anticipation can be felt around the school.
When asked how the team will perform under the pressure of the upcoming game, captain Vance Marut explained that “We have to learn to treat every week like we are playing state champs, can’t get overconfident and lose sight of this year’s goals”. Even though this is the biggest game of the season so far, the Lions are able to remain calm because of their confidence in their teammates.
Football Captain Dylan Hoenigman stated that he believes the “team’s success rides on the backs of the O-line and D-line, especially during this game. Benedictine relies on their run game and stopping that will be key, for offense once we establish our running game the game is decided.” All in all, the Lions are coming into week 4 confident and prepared to keep the hot start going, hoping to end the week with a 4-0 record
Be sure to make the trip out Friday, September 12 to Lion Stadium at 7pm to cheer on the Lions!
