The Legal Lions Lead Their Way To Victory

The Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin Legal Lions have worked long and hard to get to where they are now. The mock trial case for 2022-2023 is about a student who got in trouble for a school disciplinary matter and later got arrested. It focuses on whether he was interrogated and should have been read his Miranda rights.
The Miranda Rights:
- You have the right to remain silent
- Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law
- You have the right to an attorney and have him present while being questioned
- If you cannot afford to hire an attorney, one will be appointed to represent you before any questioning if you wish
- You can decide at any time to exercise your rights and not answer any questions or may any statements.
Additionally, these cases are often related to high schoolers. Together the A Team consisting of Seniors Bailey Rice and Victoria Baioni, Junior Tuscani Orris, Sophomore Cian O’Boyle, and Freshmen Quinn Linnert, Anneliese Moskal, Annie Stief, and Evan Eichas were victorious. The mock trial team won at The Ohio State University’s Buckeye Brawl districts competition in Columbus and proceeded toward the regional competition. Seniors Bailey Rice and Victoria Baioni stated, “They have a young team this year and are excited to hear how they will do in the next few years.” Because of their hard work, Victoria and Bailey earned the judge’s nod as best attorneys, along with Quinn and Annelise, who won the best witness awards. Mock trial captains Bailey and Victoria have been committed to mock trials since their first year. Because Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin provides a mock trial team, they can be familiar with the law through hypothetical tests as they hope to have future careers as lawyers.
