For the FIRST time in hopefully many years to come, students in Mr. Ryan Brlecic’s Visual Communication class sponsored an Easter egg hunt with NDES kindergarten and first-grade classes. In celebration of the great Easter tradition, NDCL’s yearbook and many staff headed to NDES this past Monday to set up the hunt. The event served as the expansion of the yearbook class with an inaugural public relations event that the staff plans and executes as part of the class. This adds another success to a year that already saw them launch THE MANE, an online student-run news magazine, and forum for daily campus life. As well as compliment the continued success of the CHRYSALIS yearbook.
“Tradition is something that can be often taken for granted,” said Mr. Brlecic, “It seemed a shame not to take advantage of the incredible gift – being able to connect future lions at the start of their journey with the high school students getting ready to complete theirs.”
The project allowed staff to remember what it is like to look forward to something by looking back at how fun hunting for Easter eggs can be at any age. It also served to instruct them on all the parts that go into event planning. From initial ideation, budgeting, inviting our guests, location preparation, and day-of last-minute details to ensure a successful outing. In all, approximately 60 kids took part in this year’s Easter Egg Hunt to great success.
Junior Jessica Mekhel was able to learn from predominantly senior staff. She looks forward to bridging the gap and continuing this tradition as an editor in Visual Communication for 2023 -2024. She described the event, “NDCL provided us the support to pull off something unique and different than the average field trip.”
Visual Communication would like to thank faculty and staff from both schools. Especially Dr. Jacqueline Hoynes and Mr. Joseph A. Waler, principals of NDES and NDCL, who allowed this tradition to be started. We also want to thank the teachers from NDES we worked directly with – kindergarten teachers Katherine Biro and Jacqueline Skotzke and first-grade teacher Allison Love; thanks for allowing us the time to spend with your students! Absolutely none of this would be possible without the constant encouragement of the entire lion community. Here’s looking to next year! For now, though, enjoy this photo gallery of the students’ adventures, and HAPPY EASTER!!!
