It’s November first. Is it too early for people to start warming up their hot coco and hanging up mistletoe? Or is Thanksgiving meant to just be a pause of the Christmas spirit? This is the subject of so much debate recently.
After Halloween many but some insist that it is not the holiday season yet. These people say Christmas must be held off until after Thanksgiving. This stance makes so much sense, I mean it hasn’t even started snowing yet! Thanksgiving has the same theme decorations as halloween and everything. Teachers at NDCL all seem to say that the Christmas season starts after thanksgiving. Could this be a generational gap? After Halloween it is “still the fall season until thanksgiving” says English teacher Micheal Vitale. Another English teacher Katie Martin says that the period of time between halloween and thanksgiving is her favorite time of year where she gets to visit family, enjoy the company of loved ones, and “also the food is great”.
For similar reasons people start celebrating Christmas starting November first. As the weather chills people need something to keep them upbeat, that is why many turn to utilize the Christmas spirit. It is undoubted that generosity is at its height during the holidays. It is often remarked that Christmas goes by too fast and that is why the celebration is extended into the preceding month. The sound of Christmas music has been described as the best sound in the world by some. The issue of thanksgiving intersecting the celebrations is easily explained by the fact that thanksgiving is a part of the Christmas spirit. Thanksgiving is a time where you gather with your loved ones and give thanks for the good things in your life, that doesn’t have to contradict the Christmas theme, it can be integrated!
Thanksgiving truly embodies the holiday spirit. They shouldn’t be fighting each other for who is celebrated first, they should work together to bring happiness and generosity into people’s lives. What are your thoughts on this take?
