TikTok For What It Is Worth
January 30, 2023
A significant dispute about the influence on everyone, in general, has arisen regarding the awareness of whether TikTok is wrong or not. Many people have developed opinions, to say the least, that TikTok is the best app in the world, and others have formed the view it’s the absolute worst. A US news article quotes, “U.S. lawmakers and federal regulators have criticized TikTok, citing practices and computer-driven promotion of content they say can endanger young users’ physical and mental health.” On the other hand, those who believe it’s good to cite the evidence that “TikTok’s main selling point is that it features built-in recording and editing capabilities that make it easy for content creators to quickly record, edit, and post video content on the platform.”
Two very distinct sides. What side do you stand on? Just a little bit about TikTok, it’s a wide range of apps and probably the most used app in the world. Around one million users use TikTok daily! The app has a variety of videos, from learning how to cook and making dance videos to vlogging an individual’s day, etc. However, the ongoing debate is that TikTok does indeed promote content that is not necessarily right for the young viewers’ eyes. Topics may be inappropriate to lessons and issues that young people should not learn. TikTok users, on average, spend about 95 minutes (1.5 hours) daily on the app, which is more than a fourth of how much time we spend on our phones in a day. Spending too much time on TikTok can fuel body dissatisfaction, appearance-related anxiety, or exercise addiction, to name just a few. Those who became “addicted” to this debating app have shown the leading cause of mental health. Mental health is the most important thing to maintaining a healthy lifestyle; without that, we have a downfall in confidence. TikTok can have great attributes the positive effects, but is it worth spending so much time on it? What do you think?
