Life in the Time of Covid
January 5, 2023
It is not old news to us all that Covid-19 has affected everyone. Some people benefitted from Covid while others struggled. The disease struck people of all ages, including me. Many people are trying to put the pandemic behind them in 2022, while others still try to thrive off it. How can we recover from this now that the pandemic has died down? In early 2020 Covid had officially shut down the world for what everyone thought would be a short two weeks. As time passed, the shutdown kept extending past those two weeks and never helped like there was an end. Many people during that time worked from home, and some could not work at all. For the children at school, it was remote learning the entire time. Remote learning had pros and cons and lasted for about six months, mandatory and a year and a half optional. How has Covid-19 affected kids today?
There is no denying the disease had caused lots of worry in everyone, but it seemed like everyone had lost their passion. Nobody wanted to do anything; people wanted to stay in their houses. It put a dent in our high school careers with mandatory masks and missing out on other regular events like football games because too many people could not be together. There was social distancing that needed to be enforced, shields we carried with us, the concern on everyones face when a note passed into the class that someone had been exposed. Not to mention we had to go back online a couple of times. The rules we needed to follow were a lot to put on us, even though the intentions were good. It was a difficult situation for everyone. Kids’ learning has changed drastically because of this. People wanted to go online because they felt they did not need to retain information and would look up answers.
The Covid vaccination topic was very controversial. Not everyone was on board with getting it; some people were forced to get it, or they would lose their jobs, get kicked out of school, etc. It was a pure force at that rate; I remember refusing to get my vaccine until one of my classmates told me there was no choice. It was that or quarantine every time you coughed, whether you liked it or not. Eventually, I got it, and it did not affect me ( I still got Covid-19 after I got the vaccine). Covid has impacted society for all ages; we will always be affected by the disease. The critical part is recovering from what it once was and returning to normal.
