Fantasy Football for Dummies
January 2, 2023
In September of 2021, I got a text from an old buddy saying, “Want to join a fantasy football league?”. I replied, “sure,” because I had never done it before and was ready to try it. I got added to a 14-man league with people who knew what they were doing. I was fully prepared to lose the 10 dollars I wagered, and I got the last pick in the draft. My first-ever fantasy football draft pick was Josh Jacobs, a running back for the Las Vegas Raiders. Fast forward two years later, and I’m still playing fantasy football, and this is Fantasy Football for Dummies.
As previously mentioned, I had the last pick in my draft, which was randomly picked. Having the previous selection is very beneficial in a 14-man league. By the time it gets to your turn to draft, the top ten players in the league are most likely gone. With the last pick, you get back-to-back picks because in the next round, the order reverses, and you have the final selection, now, go first in the second round. Even if it is random, the best choices you could have are the 1st and last picks. Getting the following two best players available is crucial to your success.
For most leagues, the players you draft are a Quarterback, two Running Backs, two Wide Receivers, a tight end, a Kicker, a team’s defense, and a flex. Flex is an extra guy and can be a running back, Tightend, or Wide Receiver. The running backs you draft is arguably the most important players to draft in the first round. Runningbacks get the ball the most, generating the most points possible for your squad. Most people starting would think drafting yourself a Quarterback first round is the best option, but that is not the case. Quarterbacks have the most room for error with fumbles, sacks, and interceptions. Having a good Quarterback is excellent, but not for the first round. There is always a receiver to extol, the one receiver everyone wants. Everyone in your league will offer you different trades they believe are advantageous for both parties.
Making trades can be fraught with danger; you never know whether or not you will get the better player in your trade scenario. You must elucidate the person you are trying to trade for because everyone is meticulous about the value. You should as well be very careful. Most of the time, you will get an offer that is superfluous. If you want to trade, make the best offer for you. Although making trades is very difficult, pulling off the proper trade will take your team to the Zenith moment for your league.
We’ve learned much about fantasy football, like drafting running backs first, which picks are the best, how to make the best trades, winning your games, and many more. I hope you learned something new. Remember, it is all just fun and games unless you wager money, then it is serious.
