With Easter right around the corner, the NDCL community decided to celebrate in the sweetest way possible—with a full-on Peeps taste test. From classic marshmallow chicks to bold, unexpected flavors, students came together to sample, rate, and debate which Peeps truly deserve a spot in an Easter basket.
The lineup featured a mix of traditional and creative flavors: cotton candy, strawberry Pop-Tart, original, butterbeer, watermelon, Sunny D, Dr Pepper, Rice Krispy, and birthday cake. Each flavor brought something different to the table, and reactions ranged from pleasantly surprised to completely shocked.
Some flavors leaned into nostalgia. The original Peeps, while simple, reminded tasters of childhood Easters, though many agreed they were a bit too plain compared to the newer options. Rice Krispy and birthday cake also tapped into familiar dessert flavors, with birthday cake standing out for its sweetness and fun sprinkle-like taste.
Others took bigger risks. Butterbeer and Dr Pepper sparked the most debate—some loved the uniqueness, while others weren’t convinced soda-flavored marshmallows were the way to go. Watermelon and strawberry Pop-Tart added a fruity twist, but didn’t quite win over the majority.
At the end of the tasting, a few clear favorites rose above the rest. Sunny D Peeps surprised everyone with their bright citrus flavor, making them one of the top picks. Cotton candy Peeps were another crowd favorite, praised for their light, sugary taste that perfectly matched the marshmallow texture. And finally, Birthday Cake Peeps earned a top spot thanks to their fun, dessert-like flavor that felt perfect for a celebration.
